Looking at other artists and bands, others have posters to show the album/artist. We have produced two posters which we then asked people which one they preferred. We made one have the colours of pink and white and one was darker, black and white.
People said they preffered the pink version as it was more suitable for our artist as the black and white one was too dark for indie-pop. Because of this we have gone with the image below which can be added to social media and the website.
Here is the first draft of our digipak which Soraya has been working on. We will submit this first draft to the other classes to see what people like about it and dislike incase we need to add improvements.
Shown below is the presentation Soraya created when she worked on the digipak, she used this to plan and show the process she has done in creating this first draft.
On our website there is a link to our 'store' where the audience can purchase products created for Soraya. We have looked into other artists products and researched possible items for our artist Soraya and myself and Issy between us have created items for our merchandise.
I spent time creating the mugs, the lanyard and the phone case whilst Issy created the t-shirts. We used both photo-shop/fireworks and online personalised websites to produce these.
Looking at two other similar artists, we have seen some more ideas for the website, we now know what we like and dislike which we can develop ideas for our own.
As part of our website we have a link to upcoming events which would include gigs and concerts. To make this more personal i looked into popular indie-pop venues in and around London. I looked at these by typing in simply, 'indie pop venues' and many came up. I choose a few that looked suitable for Soraya and added them to the 'tour list' on the website and added links to these websites from these events.
I used the following websites when looking for venues.
I have created this album on photobucket to show some other titles used by similar artists. We like these images as they all use bold text which would suit our genre and theme.
After creating the first few edits, we found a great feel to what edits we liked and what we liked about them so we made more for the website, social media and the digipak. Below are some more edits that use the same colours as our other favourites.
All of the photos we have taken of Soraya have used either Issy's or my iPhone or my camera (Lucy) which have both given good quality images to work with. The photos above are taken from my camera. (Canon EOS 1000D)
Level 4The candidate is expected to demonstrate excellence in the creative use of most of the following technical skills: • shooting material appropriate to the task set; including controlled use of the camera, attention to framing, variety of shot sizes and close attention to mise en scene
• editing so that meaning is apparent to the viewer and making selective and appropriate use of shot transitions, captions and other effects
• recording and editing sound with images appropriately.
Where a candidate has worked in a group, an excellent contribution to construction is evident.
This is a copy of the mark scheme for a level four music video which we are aiming for. By looking at this mark scheme we need to have a variety of shots which I strongly believe we have as we have filmed in many different locations which I think is the best thing about our task so far as it has given us a lot of footage to work with. We have also included a variety of shots in terms of framing. We have added close ups and far away shots but could maybe add even more. By achieving the other points we need to get feedback from other people to see what they think about the video so far and see how we can improve even more as we are very keen to achieve level four.
I have found some A grade music videos to see how they have reached level four to compare ours.
Out of all the videos I watched, this was my favourite. I really liked it because it involved narrative which had a lot of humour which is risky in a music video. However it is quite different to ours as ours is performance based which only has one solo artist but I also liked the editing and effects they have used which we could learn from.
As a half way evaluation we started a prezi presentation to show the class what we have been working on, Issy then carried on with this task as it was through her Prezi account. It includes our ideas and what we have made such as the website and digi-pak. It has the website link, twitter and Facebook pages that we have all had goes at managing.
Editing has never been my strong point in this subject, I feel like I am more basic when it comes to editing, my strengths are more with the detail in the blog, production diary and designing the website and merchandise. However I would love to expand my skills on editing which is why I wanted to have a turn at the editing. Issy has done a great job on the first half of the song which made me think it would be hard to make it look good at my part, but taking the time and effort I am so pleased I took this task on as I feel in such a short space of time I have improved greatly. I have only so far done about half of the songs draft but this has given me so much more confidence in helping with the final edit. I believe between us we can create a good final piece. I still have quite basic skills therefore between me and Issy we could do our own parts, I could create the basic order of shots and Issy can concentrate on effects such as cloning and stop motion.
I also had a go at effects however such as colour and stop motion but the only drawback is that I am a lot slower than Issy therefore Issy would be better at this role. When it comes to editing the final draft now I feel more confident in helping with editing with Issy.
When editing, to make our shots look brighter and more suitable for our genre, we have looked into filters and colours to use when editing. Below are images from other music videos which have given us ideas.
Looking at other similar artists such as Ellie Goulding and Lana Del Rey, every artist and band we have looked into has some sort of merchandise and the most popular items are phone cases, bags and posters. For our website we have added a store button which links to this merchandise which we will offer to fans. Below I have looked into possibilities for items we can offer by seeing what items are popular in other artists as well as new products.
Over the last few weeks we have gathered many photos from photo-shoots and filming which we have used to edit for social media, album covers, digi-paks and our website. We have edited them on Photoshop and iPhone apps to create a purple themed image.
Shown below are the photos we have created over the last few weeks so far and we will continue to create lots more to keep our accounts up to date.
When Soraya missed the week as she went to Spain she managed to film a lot of shots whilst she was there as she took her camera with her. The footage she filmed was brilliant as certain shots looked really professional as the sunny and dry weather created really nice natural lighting on Soraya. Soraya couldn't take a schools camera to Spain so she took her own which could have been risky as the quality may not have been good but now looking at the footage, the detail and quality she captured was really nice and is defiantly worth using for the video. The camera Soraya used for this filming was a Nikon DSLR which gave great quality for the filming.
Soraya managed to film in many locations such as the street and the beach and even managed to find a wall which had graffiti on it which links perfectly to our theme of art and creative backgrounds. She got her mum to film her against these backgrounds which will look great with the rest of our footage.
There could have been many potential problems of Soraya filming in Spain, for example it could have made the rest of the footage look different and not as good as the locations would have been very different which could have spoilt our other locations. Another issue is that she could have filmed footage that wouldn't have looked good as it could have taken a different theme. But Soraya managed to find some appropriate locations and managed to fit to the genre and the artists herself whilst filming.
One problem Soraya had was something that could have potentially been really good. At the time of Soraya being away we still had the name of vision so when she was at the beach she printed the name 'vision' in the sand and the sea washed it away which looked really good on camera but now we are using the name Soraya which means we cannot use that footage. However if we did use this footage it may not have looked as good as it may have taken away the nice look to the rest of the footage although it does still fit the art theme to our video.
Below are some images of footage that Soraya got from being in Spain which shows the locations. I have used my photo bucket account to present these photos.
The photos above show just five locations, Soraya also used the beach which looked great in terms of backgrounds and colour. I believe the shots with the graffiti wall is one of the best shots we have as it follows the theme and fits well with the use of backgrounds as another shot includes another similar graffiti wall.
Here is our digi-pak so far. We have gone for the colours purple and blue because they are both colours that suit the genre of indie pop. We didn't go for pinks as this would be more suited to a girly artist and we didn't choose dark colours as this would suit heavier rock and gothic artists. The two colours really work well together and they go well with our theme of art as they look good together. The two images of Soraya we have used are suited to our artist, they are both taken from the photo shoots we have done and they both have a similar look to them as Soraya waved her hair about for these photos as we got this inspiration from another similar artist, Ellie Goulding. The image in the centre shows the song titles in the album and we have used a paint background from our music video footage for this, the paint not only fits the colour scheme but it also fits the arty theme to our video and the image itself makes sense from our song.
Early on Soraya created a presentation of the plan towards the digipak. She also made some sketches and added ideas we could use. These are shown below.
As a half way evaluation, we created a presentation to present to the class to show what we have been working on. We showed the backgrounds we have made and added an interview which we filmed. In this interview I asked Soraya questions and Issy filmed it.
Today we went back to Issys and filmed in her garden. Again we had to be careful planning this due to weather. We hoped to film yesterday (7th November) but it was forecast to rain which it did. However we checked the weather for today and it said it should stay dry but cloudy therefore we took today filming the paint throwing scene and got some really nice shots as the natural light helped when filming outside.
