Soraya filming in Spain

When Soraya missed the week as she went to Spain she managed to film a lot of shots whilst she was there as she took her camera with her. The footage she filmed was brilliant as certain shots looked really professional as the sunny and dry weather created really nice natural lighting on Soraya. Soraya couldn't take a schools camera to Spain so she took her own which could have been risky as the quality may not have been good but now looking at the footage, the detail and quality she captured was really nice and is defiantly worth using for the video. The camera Soraya used for this filming was a Nikon DSLR which gave great quality for the filming.

Soraya managed to film in many locations such as the street and the beach and even managed to find a wall which had graffiti on it which links perfectly to our theme of art and creative backgrounds. She got her mum to film her against these backgrounds which will look great with the rest of our footage.

There could have been many potential problems of Soraya filming in Spain, for example it could have made the rest of the footage look different and not as good as the locations would have been very different which could have spoilt our other locations. Another issue is that she could have filmed footage that wouldn't have looked good as it could have taken a different theme. But Soraya managed to find some appropriate locations and managed to fit to the genre and the artists herself whilst filming.

One problem Soraya had was something that could have potentially been really good. At the time of Soraya being away we still had the name of vision so when she was at the beach she printed the name 'vision' in the sand and the sea washed it away which looked really good on camera but now we are using the name Soraya which means we cannot use that footage. However if we did use this footage it may not have looked as good as it may have taken away the nice look to the rest of the footage although it does still fit the art theme to our video.

Below are some images of footage that Soraya got from being in Spain which shows the locations. I have used my photo bucket account to present these photos.

The photos above show just five locations, Soraya also used the beach which looked great in terms of backgrounds and colour. I believe the shots with the graffiti wall is one of the best shots we have as it follows the theme and fits well with the use of backgrounds as another shot includes another similar graffiti wall.

Filming 25th October Issys garden

Here are some photos taken when we filmed the paint background shots. We took around 5 hours setting up this board in Issys garden, we used her garden as our location as it was easy to get to and it was big therefore we lots of room to film and get shots. The weather was sunny and dry which was great to film and we got some videos of Soraya performing with the board, however we may need to re-shoot to get some more footage with the finished paint board as this took more time then we thought.
We used newspaper to cover up parts of the fence we didn't want to get paint on and we used a bench to lift the board higher for Soraya to stand in front of. We used Sorayas tripod and camera to film as we forgot to get one from school but managed to get some good shots.

Filming 22nd October

After creating the eye wall in lesson we took about 3 hours after school filming more shots. We used the main assembly hall of the school to film this. We used the stage and the lighting in the hall to create another dark image to film. Soraya used the stage to perform with the lights for one shot. We also used the eye wall with the lighting to film and we re-filmed the fire wall so we had backup if it worked better than last time.

Before this we also used outside locations at school to film which included the trees on the field as the leaves and sun made really nice colours and lighting, we did this first until we had access to the hall.
Shown below are some images we took whilst filming to show what set up we had and to show some locations we used.

Filming 20th October fire wall

In todays media lesson we filmed our next scene using the first of our canvases. The one we filmed in this hour was the fire wall. After spending around 4 hours on this wall we lent the board up against the wall outside and got Soraya to sing in front of it. I think we got some really nice shots with the help of good natural light from the sun, a slight breeze from the wind and the height was right with the use of the chairs. By using a tripod we created good angles to show the layout we had and I took some photographs whilst Issy had a go at filming, these images are shown below to show what position we had things in.

Filming 11 october sunrise

This morning I got up early as luckily I was already due at work at 8 and the location for the sunrise filming was on the way. I got to the location at 10 past 7 as I knew the sunrise was going to be at quarter past, this gave me 5 minutes to set up in a good spot to film which was plenty of time. I managed to film about 4 minutes of the sunrise but after this the cloud cover was at the same position of the sunrise so I had to stop filming but I still got a couple of minutes of the sun which may still be useful for the music video as it will set the scene of the common we will use later on.

Filming 11th October Grafitti wall

On the 11th October our group went to film at a wall that is used for graffiti artists. This location is perfect for our video as we are using a variety of different colourful and arty background for Soraya to sing and perform in front of. Ever since our group have become a solo artist, we have managed to have some really good ideas which has improved our video already.

These three images are of Soraya using the steps to sing and make more appealing. The contrast of the colours with her dark outfit makes her stand out more as she sits on the steps we found there. Also shown is an image I took of Issy using the tripod and camera which we took turns of. This angle looks really nice on camera as we captured some of the wall in the foreground and Soraya on the steps in the shot too.

The clothes Soraya wore really suit the location as they are dark and plain which makes the art behind her look even better. As prepared in a different post, the weather stayed how it said it would and we were really lucky to film on such a bright day, this helped us capture some really nice footage as the sun gave us great lighting which helped with showing both Soraya and the wall.

I took these images to show the angles we got, I believe we got some really nice footage which will look great in the video. With the use of my iPhone and filters, I created these edits which make the location look just how we wanted it too.

Finally, here are some photographs of the layout of the filming, the tripod was set up with the camera facing Soraya on the steps and the last photo is one Issy took of me using the tripod and camera.

Filming 9th October

Today we filmed in the drama studio again and re-filmed the projected images shots again. We filmed this again because we changed the group from being a band to just Soraya so we needed to get some more footage of just Soraya. However the internet wasn't working so we couldn't use the laptop therefore we couldn't have access to the time lapse video. Because of this problem, we just filmed Soraya with a blank background and we can edit the time lapse in later, we may need to film this once more because this way didn't allow us to capture good shadows, although the lighting was a lot better as we had help using the lights and made them purple.

Here is a photo I took to show the layout we had when filming. Soraya was against the all and we had purple lighting, we had to be careful when shooting as there was a radiator in the way but we managed to crop it out. We used a tripod to film with the camera.

First time filming!

Here are some images that were taken from when we first filmed. We took about two hours after school setting up the location we used which was the drama studio. We adjusted the lights and set up the projector to make the right lighting to view the video behind Soraya and set up the

We all had a go at performing together and we did some filming of just Soraya on her own. I think it would be best to have just Soraya on her own as it would make the effect of the shadow better and clearer. I also think it makes more sense to just have Soraya as she is the only singer in the group so it looks a bit odd for me and Issy to be standing next to her.

I think it would be best for us to film this again because even though we got some footage of Soraya, I think we need more because it looks best with Soraya on her own. This way instead of having all three of us together which makes it look more crowded, me and Issy can use ourselves to film rather than using tripods, this way we can capture better angles and make better footage of Soraya filming.

This will have to be filmed again but it shouldn't take too much time as we now know exactly what we are doing with the set up, lights and order of performance. We can quickly set everything up and get Soraya to sing the song a couple of times with the background so we have her in different angles.

What went well about this filming was how well the image came out from the projector and how the lights from the time lapse changed the whole footage. This was good because not only is there shadows from the image in the background but we also got colour changes and light/dark parts in the video which make it look effective.

Filming schedule

Each time we planned to film, we added the location and what props and equipment we needed so we knew what we needed. Props for example would include whether we needed a tripod or not.

Below is an image of the shooting schedule we created.
